What will I need?

You can just turn up with shorts and a t-shirt as most of the equipment will be supplied. Might be a good idea to bring some water a sweat towel though. A gum-shield and groin-guard are also essential and these can be bought on site.

When are Muay Thai classes?

Taught by Kenny ‘Kenshiro’ Moyston

Kenny ‘Kenshiro’ Moyston (Kenshiro is a nickname taken from a manga cartoon character which Kenny is a fan of) started learning Thaiboxing in 2000 under Andy Mayo at Kings Gym in Eltham, and achieved a black belt level within 5 years. Kenny has been with ZT Fight Skool for four years and has built up a great class here.

Background

Muay Thai also known as Thai Boxing, Thai Kickboxing or the science of eight limbs.

This style originated in Thailand centuries ago when the gentle peace loving people had to defend themselves and their land from aggressive powers.

They developed a form of close, hand to hand combat best suited for the kind of rough terrain battle they were fighting. Over the years if became a rite of passage for Thai men to take up training in Muay Thai and it was made a compulsory part of military training.

Muay Thai is thought by many to be the most effective form of striking of all its similar to traditional boxing and kickboxing but uses the fist, elbow, knees, feet and shins to strike with as well as some grappling, throws and sweeps.

Training in Muay Thai can, done safely, be a great workout developing strength, speed agility, balance and flexibility. It can also improve confidence, relieve stress and can be used by both men and women as self defence.
